Unknown:

On today's episode of the digital wrap up, Kaley joins the show again to talk about all things Christmas. That's right, we go over her top 10 color combination for Christmas decorations. And also just get into a healthy debate about whether it's too soon to be decorating for Christmas talking about Christmas, too soon for Christmas music on the radio. You know, it's just that time right after Halloween that people get into the debate of is it now Christmas time? Or is it Thanksgiving time. So that's a fun conversation that we have. But before that I go over this week social media topics and platform updates in different features. So all that is coming right now on the digital wrap up. Welcome back to another episode of the digital wrap up. My name is Riley and I'm the host and I'm the CEO of hardened digital and Design. Today is Thursday, November 9, and we are back with another episode with Kaylee, who will be joining us here later to talk about some Christmas color combinations, her top 10 list of different combinations that she likes for decorating your house for Christmas or they can also be used for creating your social media graphics and marketing materials for the holiday season. But before we get into that conversation, and before we talk about this week's social media updates, I want to remind you to watch if you're not watching already on YouTube, you can watch this entire episode on youtube.com/out hard and digital. It's especially beneficial for this episode as we'll be showing some of the examples that Kaylee talks about in the interview about the color combinations. So really good place to kind of tune in there and see more of what we're talking about. But if you're not a big fan of watching or listening on YouTube completely fine. Just be sure to like and subscribe to the podcast, whether you're listening on Apple, podcasts, Spotify, Amazon, whichever platform you're listening to right now be sure to subscribe so you can get the latest updates to your phone whenever we publish them. So let's go ahead and jump into this week's social media updates. And they revolve a lot around meta this week. Facebook in specific, but I know last week, we talked a lot about Instagram, but I guess this is meta in general Facebook, and then also threads. So we'll start off with threads. Because it's kind of a big issue, in the sense that there's another company named threads that has the name threads that is threatening, I guess it already has threatened meadow with legal action over the business name of threads. So to give you some background, there's a company called threads software limited. That's that's threatened the legal action because they claim they've had the name threads ever since 2014 2012 or 2014. And now obviously, you know threads big new platform is are met as new platform is kind of taking off like I talked about last week. And I think it's really gaining some ground still. But now this company in the UK is like hey, stop using our name, we've had threads for a lot longer than you. And now we kind of want to take the legal route to get you to stop using it. Think big picture really is that they're probably just you know, be some undisclosed amount given to this other threads company for letting meta continue to use the named threads for their platform. But according to a recent statement, they met as lawyers have already made several offers to put purchase the domain name threads dot app from this other company. And all those offers have been turned down. And also an interesting note. Looking at an article from social media today is that this Facebook kind of already launched a threads app back in 2019. There was more supposed to be like a Snapchat clone versus the the Twitter clone. And this other company didn't really bat an eye at it back then. But I think Now that threads is an official thing, and it's kind of gained popularity and as this huge platform, now they're like, Oh, we can probably get a lot more money out of it. So you know, they've turned down these other offer these previous four offers, but what they're really probably going to end up doing is just getting an even bigger settlement. Because it's meta, it's Facebook, they can probably get any dollar amount that they want at this point, because Matt is already using the word threads in the platform, I doubt they're going to want to go back and change it now. So I guess we will probably never hear the actual dollar amount of what gets settled on for how much Mehta pays this other threads company to use the name and use domain name, but likely will be that meta continues to use threads, and they're big enough now that they can pay whatever. So. Switching gears, that'll be something, you know, will continue to monitor over the coming weeks and months, as I'm sure there'll be a big legal process. So we'll update you there. But another kind of legal battle that meta is going through right now, in the UK, again, is the privacy issues that have been happening for a while. EU has very strict privacy laws. And that's you know, Facebook collects a lot of data on people's Surprise, surprise, if you didn't know that. and the EU is fed up with it. So this has been an ongoing battle for a while. So Mehta has been trying to figure out ways to steal, monetize off of the users, right, because medical excess data, and then they sell it to advertisers. And that's how meta makes money. But if they're not allowed to collect this data, which means then they're not allowed to send it and give it away to the advertisers not necessarily give it away. But let advertisers see what you like and what your interests are and what you engage with and what you click on all this different stuff that is going in going on on Facebook without you even realizing it. If they're not able to do that anymore, how can they then make money because they're not going to be able to sell that to advertisers. And then advertisers aren't going to want to spend money on their platform. So their alternative is metta is offering an ad free subscription in Europe to kind of offset the cost if they're no longer able to track other users. So you know, it's upwards of 12, nine to 12 euros a month in Europe, depending on what platform or which device you're on. Like there's different prices for if you're on a mobile user or using desktop, which you know, can add up pretty quickly. It's based on number of accounts too. So like, if you have Facebook, Instagram, you have business accounts, all this different stuff. I don't know the the exact specifications on like, if a business account, or business page counts towards one of those in your charge extra, because that would be insanely through the roof in terms of pricing, how much you'd have to pay. But yeah, it'll be interesting to see how this, I think it's officially happening, they're going to offer this but I don't know if it's going to be received very well. Or if people will continue the full legal battle of not letting their data be collected, but also not paying to use Facebook. So Matt is kind of in a big flux in terms of a few big legal issues right now. In terms of data, privacy, naming of threads, all this type of stuff. And it kind of it's an ironic time that all this is happening because I'm currently reading the book called An ugly truth inside Facebook's battle for domination which if you haven't read yet, it is very eye opening in terms of all the stuff that has happened at Facebook from the very beginning, up until I'm only like three fourths of the way through the book, but I'm assuming up until published date, but it talks about, you know, the Cambridge analytical stuff, all the stuff revolving around the 2016 presidential election and Russia. false news running ads, you know, they ran up to $100,000 worth of ads and those ads reached some 126 million Americans and you know, how did that influence See The, the election. So there's just so many like, you know, and then the guests, I guess the culture behind the employees that like some of them knew some sketchy stuff was going on but they couldn't say anything without retaliation and like even some of the people in the book still work there and fear retaliation, so they can't be named. So it's a very eye opening book, kind of scary to think about, it talks about everything, you know, that meta collects on you the information, the data, you know, it talks about some of the, like, employees getting fired, because they go in and look at people's personal data, and then use it against them, or just, they say, Hey, I like this person, I'm gonna go get into their, the back end of their Facebook profile and, and stalk them and find everything out about them and do all this stuff. And, you know, these are people that have unlimited access to the back end of Facebook, doing this type of stuff, it makes it very scary to think about, you know, what could actually happen and what people could do with that information. So like even seeing your location, if you have your location services on an engineer, somebody on the back end of Facebook could go and see them sitting in the office and Tipton and use that for whatever purposes, they're trying to use it for, whether they're stalking you sending somebody there to intimidate, like, just like the possibilities are endless. And it's kind of scary to think about. But that book, again, an ugly truth inside Facebook's battle for domination, not affiliated with it. And I don't get sales or anything off of that. It's just a very eye opening social media book. If you're into that, and kind of want to know more about what happens with all the data and what, how Facebook became what it is, and all that good stuff. One last social media update for this week, kind of ties back to what I talked about last week with Instagram polls. Got some a little more information into it. And you know, I was kind of like didn't know how it was going to work, in terms of where they posted, like in the picture of whatever, like the posts are in the real the post, but turns out the polls would actually be posted in the comments section, like as the caption or a comment. So that it wouldn't like be an overlay necessarily in the post, which is what I was kind of thinking. And I didn't know how that work. But it looks like it's going to be more so in the comments. Whether that's, you know, a random person can post a poll, or if it's just the Creator publisher themselves, they can then put post an additional poll in the comments or the caption. So again, polls are very engaging. They're some of the most engaged content on LinkedIn and on x. They used to be very engaging on Facebook until Facebook took them away. But an interesting point is they took them away on Facebook, but now they're interested introducing them on Instagram. So they know the value of polls, why they ever took them away. I'm not sure obviously, you can still you can use them in Facebook groups, but businesses and personal accounts can't post polls, which just doesn't make sense. So I hope maybe they find success with Instagram polls, and they reintroduce it to at least business pages, I think would benefit from polls on Facebook, but we'll see how it goes. So that's this week's update on social media, not a lot of necessarily platform, feature updates, but just some interesting things to kind of dig into or think about. That's happening at meta right now in terms of the threads naming and the the legal side of data privacy in the EU. And if that happens, what will that shape what happens in the US as well and across the rest of the world? And how will that impact at Facebook, Instagram, and now threads moving forward? So let me know if you have any questions about any of that. Be happy to talk, send us a tweet, send this message on whatever platforms you're on. Our username is at harden digital, except for on Instagram, of course, it's at harden underscore digital, and we'd be happy to chat with you about that. So let's go ahead and move on. And again, I have to give YouTube another plug because this interview will be a lot more beneficial. If you do watch it on YouTube. You'll still get a lot out of it. But for those people who are visual, more visual thinkers, definitely go watch it on youtube.com/at heart and digital. But without further ado, here is Kaylee Welcome back, Kaylee. Thanks for joining me. Once again, on the digital wrap up, I believe it's two weeks in a row. Now that might be a record. So it's not as scary now, so I'm fine with it. Good. And I just noticed when we started talking here that you have almost Christmas colors on in a way I planned, which is foreshadowing. But I know today we're going to talk about Christmas coat color combinations and which ones are your favorite and kind of give some people ideas and inspirations outside of the traditional red and green. But before that, I kind of just have to ask the question. Is it too early for Christmas in general right now? We're recording this on November 8. And I feel like people have already gone too crazy with Christmas. I personally don't think it's too early. I'm probably I like Christmas. So as soon as Halloween was over, I was that person that was like, Okay, it's November 1. I haven't put myself up at home yet. Because I have a husband. And he is not for Christmas this early. But I feel like as soon as Halloween is over, it's time. I'm the opposite. I'm like Joel, for sure. He told me that I could do it after Thanksgiving. Like that. I guess to me, it's a lot of work to do to only have it up for like 20 days. Yeah, I'd rather have it up after Christmas than before. I don't know. Yeah. One year I left mine up to like April though. Yeah. Like a week or two in January versus right after Halloween. Yeah, I guess the most people that might potentially see it. I don't have people over. So the most people to potentially see it at our house is going to be during New Year's but I guess it depends for other people. Are you do you care if people I don't know, maybe people just like it for themselves. One year I didn't put my tree up till December 23. So sometimes it's a mood. It's a vibe. Yeah. Christmas is a yearly debate for me of if I care if I don't care. Yeah, well, like I work the election yesterday. And the main guy who I worked for, was asking about the Hamilton County Elections was asking about why there were Christmas trees in the courthouse and I explained, you know, festival trees, everything like that. But then he also pointed out that there's Christmas lights on the square downtown like hanging from the poles they nosal decorated and put up like, I don't know some type of designed to light Christmas light stuff. And it's like, is that too soon? No, because like Tipton still has fall slash Thanksgiving banners hanging. They they update seasonal banners. And they're not on the Christmas yet, but Noblesville is like all in on Christmas. I still think like, especially now that it gets dark at four o'clock in the afternoon. Yeah, I think Christmas lights look pretty. So I don't think they necessarily have to be Christmas themed lights either. Could just be holiday lights. Yeah. I don't know if you ask Hobby Lobby. Christmas starts in what July? Yeah. So it's like they're already done with Christmas decorations. They're already moving on to Easter. Yeah, Christmas decorations have been half off already for a month or so. That's the you have to think that far in advance. You know, in that situation in that situation? Yeah. Yeah. Like if you're selling the Christmas stuff, because people decorate in October for Christmas. So they need to be out in August ahead of time, which I guess brings me to a point on the business side of things of if it's too early for Christmas. And if you're if you sell items sell products, then it is definitely not too early to be thinking about Christmas. It's probably too late to be just probably too late. Right? Because people are already in Christmas shopping mode. Obviously Black Friday and everything is still a couple of weeks away. But if you needed to stock up on inventory, it'd be too late. Like these last sales. I know a lot of especially small businesses like Etsy shops and things like that run sales ahead of time ahead of time before Black Friday to try and get people to purchase through them before waiting for Black Friday deals from bigger retailers and stuff. Yes, and like November is the month of all the craft shows and vendor boutiques. There's one at least around here every single weekend like Now until Christmas, so if you needed to, especially if you're making all of this stuff at home, you got to start in the beginning of the year to stock up for this. So I guess it all just depends what industry you're in who you're asking. Even at my hair salon, they've already got all their Christmas package, like shampoo packages. Yeah, like that's already out there. Christmas trees up. Yep. One of my clients I met with today had they were in the middle of decorating for Christmas see office, this makes me feel like I could go home and do it. And no one can judge me. Yeah. If you want you can decorate the office. I think also. Oh, okay. Sorry. I missed that completely. You could have, you could have just kept on talking. And I wouldn't have even registered that in my head. But I think also the fact that our mom was so big into Christmas. Yeah, I got that gene. It's probably like, I got the gene of all the Christmas and you got the oh my gosh, this is too much. Yeah. And I was kind of I don't she hasn't really mentioned decorating for Christmas yet. But she definitely went not over the top because we didn't do a whole lot for I guess, October and fall, but I never do I have a feeling Christmas. If she's listening. And she hasn't thought about it yet. She'll be thinking about it now. So. And as the same way, I have to think about it. I guess it's it's easy for me because I don't change my decorations ever. Yeah, it's the same thing in the same places every year. That makes sense. I finally picked a theme. And I've just stuck with it. So then I don't spend so much money. Let's decorate this will be our second year in the new house in our Christmas trees massive. We have the vaulted ceilings and it also takes up a big chunk of the walkway. So I'm already thinking like, do I really want the Christmas tree up for two whole months where I have to walk around the and that's where one of the dog crates goes a year. So like, maybe just won't do Christmas tree this year. But I thought that I thought that the one year that I waited so long, I was just like, there's no reason. No one comes here. It's just me and Joel. And we didn't we don't do like big Christmas morning reveals for the two of us. It's not that exciting. So I'm like, Do I really have to do this, that I got like two days for I'm like, I can't I can't just not have a Christmas tree. So then I scrambled and so I'm a little I'm more for like, let's do it. Now. Let's over prepare. And I've been in Christmas MODE for two months now. Oh, with my magazines with the festival of trees coming up. I've already had to buy all of that. For my tree. I'm designing like I've been I'm kind of done with Christmas, then you probably just shouldn't decorate now. Yeah, no, I'm gonna do it while he's gone hunting. So he doesn't have to help. That's that was our deal. I can put it up before Thanksgiving. Because he won't be there and I won't make him help. Interesting. I need to come up with a compromise. Yeah, but I don't think it'd be tough for her to set up the tree because it's so tall by herself. I just stand on things. I mean, we have a ladder. But yeah, if the lift the heavy, it's in four or five different sections. And you know, it's 10 feet, if not taller, I think but anyways, so Christmas. It's just been something you know, thinking about it. If you're a business owner and you're selling things obviously you should probably have been thinking about this by now but it just seems like every year people start talking about Christmas sooner and sooner. So the radio hasn't switched yet. I don't think it's good. I don't listen to the radio. I listen to podcast so a dozen I have no idea if they start I'm sure the like Sirius XM radio is probably started Christmas haven't gone anywhere to a store anything where I've heard Christmas music yet so much true. Is that people used to play Christmas music on the touchtunes at different bars. Like this is not where we listen to Christmas. I'm going to do that. I don't really go to the bar. It's incredibly divided odd. It's very bizarre. There's a place for Christmas to like, sometimes you just don't need it to be Christmassy. Yeah, I I'm all for that thought too, that we don't need to like puke Christmas everywhere on everything. You don't have to run a Christmas ad campaign. If it has nothing to do with what you're doing. Yeah, fair enough. So you don't have to, especially when podcast studio No. Okay. Do I need? I could put up some lights, I guess. Yeah. I don't know how well they'd show up. But yeah, maybe not worth it. Yeah, I can do the garland around the the mic stands here for the two podcasts we actually do in December. Yeah. But that does bring up a good point. If you aren't already watching on YouTube and you want to see the podcast studio and you want to see our future decorations that Kaley may or may not do yours. I could do mine. We could have a vote. Yeah. That sounds like a hard path. I will lose that one. But if you do want to see, check us out on youtube youtube.com/at hardened digital and you can check out the podcast studio. Watch us with back to us. But we're growing that that channel a lot. We post a bunch of shorts and highlights from the podcasts on there as well as every episode that we record. So she section called Kaylee's rants of shorts, we could but they they usually lasts longer than a minute. shorts are only a minute. So sorry. I mean, we could do clips and you know, cut four minutes out of the podcasts and just do those videos but as side and make a whole separate playlist, but it's a lot of work anyways. Yeah. So anyways, go check out the YouTube youtube.com/athearn Digital, be sure to subscribe. I think we're going to do some more design stuff, showcasing different designs, concepts, color code, color, codes, color combinations, things like that is the goal with the YouTube on top of obviously publishing the podcast. So check us out there before we get into color combinations. Also want to drop a quick plug. If you're listening on Spotify, Apple, Amazon, whatever it may be, be sure to subscribe to the podcast so you can hear every episode and get a notification whenever we publish new one once a week. So like subscribe, wherever you watch or listen to us. So Kaylee Christmas color combinations. Yes, red and green. Overdone is my least favorite. Yes, I'm calling that classic combination, because I can't say it's just awful. Yeah. So these are my we're talking today about color combos that I would anything besides red and green basically. Because I I've said it probably on multiple podcasts even that one episode where we did colors I hate together. Red and green. Just as not it for me. I feel like it in design purposes just looks ridiculous. So what do you know the origin of red and green for Christmas? I do not some? Somebody out there just decides these things? Yeah. It probably has something to do with like, berries and Holly and trees, trees and presents. I don't know what the? I don't know. Maybe I'll look it up. And yeah, we'll throw that in somewhere. No, just interesting to maybe see why. Whoever came up with this idea of red and green decided to do so for it kind of just naturally came because it is not a great color combination. If you really think about traditional colors and how things go together. Red and green. Do not No, you wouldn't use them. If it wasn't a Christmas color combo. I don't think people would use them ever. You wouldn't wrap green bows on red things for any other reason besides Christmas. Like yeah, it looks stupid. So it's the red and the green and the plat is the like most traditional Christmas color slash texture pattern. And I will never have that in my house. I can't do it. I can't. So you're kind of wearing plaid, but it's red. And I did. Yes. Red and Black is fine. Okay, that's on the list. Oh, we'll get to that. Shoot. I did not look at these before. I know number 10. And number one, but that's it. So yeah, let's go ahead you have a top 10 list, your favorite color combinations. We'll start with number 10 which is not necessarily your least favorite but your least favorite of the 10 of the 10. Yes, I like all of these. These are all my there are plenty other options besides these 10 as well. These are just my favorite 10. So 10 being the least of my top 10. Yeah, so again, go check out the YouTube we have the actual color combinations up on screen, the colors and then also some examples of trees, decorations, all this different stuff. So youtube.com/athearn Digital in you can see what we are going to be talking about here. So let's start with the first one. Red and Gold. Number 10. Red and Gold is a number 10 Is it Oh no. Okay. I scrolled through. I wrote it down on my fancy. Okay, fancy post it note here number 10. What is number 10? Number 10. Is silver and gold. Yeah. Just mixed metallics, but we're going with silver and gold. Yeah, I feel like it used to be very frowned upon, like gold and silver earrings. You're not supposed to mix. You're not supposed to do the two different metals. But I think for Christmas, it's perfectly fine. Okay, it looks very shiny. We're committing? Yeah. It looks like a lot. It is very like obnoxious, but it doesn't look bad. It doesn't look bad at all. A lot of people do a lot of like, bronze. Yeah, and gold or bronze and silver too. So I think it's just the metals. The metal colors going together. Yeah. And like the one of these examples shows like, bronze ish gold frame on the picture that's hanging up and kind of the shelf or stand that some of the decorations are on is that same type of color. So a lot of different, different things you can incorporate besides just the bulbs and ribbons and stuff like that. Yeah. All right. What is number nine for you? Number nine is supposed to be red and lime green and Grinch. Yes. Okay. Grinch, that's a good way. The Grinch theme because it is red and green. It is red and green about that. It's not. I know. That's why I'm gonna have to justify this one. The traditional red and green is like, almost a maroon red. And like a darker ish green K. Which still is too dark colors looks so dumb. I'm gonna repeat it over and over, apparently. But this one The Grinch is like, bright in your face read the most obnoxious like lime Grinch green. Yeah. And then, like, one darker color of green. It looks a little bit more like El fee, like, cartoony, I feel like yeah, that's as a theme. I mean, there is a picture of like a miniature Grinch shish doll. Yeah. And one of one of the examples and I think it's good. It's a different style. I feel like all together. Oh, especially to the number 10. The it's more playful and happy type. Yes. It's not my style, like at home at all. Yeah, it would drive me bonkers. But kids, kids young families, your true Yeah. I feel like that's what it fits. And Hobby Lobby has like two full aisles full of Grinch that they have these little pics. Do you do pics in your tree? It's like a long stick with. I don't cool things on the well. They have a fuzzy lime green Grinch for one. So, plug for Hobby Lobby. Yeah. Okay, so I like that one. Let's go on to number eight, which is supposed to be red and gold. Correct. Now we're at red and gold. Whoo. This one. I feel like if, if anybody ever was thinking more traditional. This would be the next most traditional. Yeah, I would say I'd say very traditional without the clash of the green. Yes. So this is the one I can handle. Okay, I like it. You can do any shade of red. You can do bright red with gold. You can do dark like deep deep red. You can mix you can do I love like velvet red ribbon with gold. Don't quote me on this, but I think this is what our tree is. If I remember correctly, maybe okay, you keep talking. I'll keep talking. You look it up. I was thinking yours was blue. Oh god. I only I mean I didn't see it in person. So you looked at it a lot more than I did. But red and gold I can handle anytime I see like Christmas invitations or Christmas. Ads anything Christmas themed? I feel like red and gold is what people use versus the red and green. Because other people out there No, it doesn't match. No, we're reading gold. Oh, here. Here's a picture of blue. Okay, that's like white and red and gold. So yeah, um, here's Okay, white goes with everything. I'm not even get like I put white. White. Oh, I'd say it's definitely more red and white. Candy Cane ish. Yeah. Okay, well, there's some. I thought we had gold. There's one or two gold Bob. Like variation of gold in there. Can I throw out There's no this it goes with all the colors, but on Christmas trees, I don't understand how people can do colored lights. Yeah, I can. It's so hectic. There's too many colors and then whatever themed stuff you put on it just clashes so I'm, I can't figure that out. I have to do white lights with everything. But I think like with more playful like the Grinch one maybe. But that'd be like you get like yellow and you get like blues and oranges with your reds and your greens and then it's chaotic to me. I've seen people pull it off. People just do chaos trees. Yeah, my brain just can't handle. I'm gonna get an office Christmas tree and make it the most hectic tree. Just you have to sit there and look at it. That's fine. It's not I don't have to relax at the office. I have to work so yeah, at home I could not handle. Okay, so moving on. Number seven. Seven should be like a red and silver are red and gray. Red and white. And gray. Yeah. Sounds like your tree. Yeah, candy cane. A little too far. I thought we were red and gold but are close. So this this I like anything the red and white looks cool. You can do you can go candy cane theme or striped or polka dot themed. Like you did. A lot of these ones had the silver thrown in or the gray was the gnomes I think gnomes. So I think I think throwing the gray in with the red and white looks cool because it's not overpowering. It's just kind of like a neutral. Yeah. Did you see our topper there? Yes. So you went with the full red and white? Yeah. Mainly because I found the topper and that was like my one contribution and then you kind of have to base it. That's a big year. I totally committed Yeah, base it around that. But I like the silver better than the gold. Or maybe more of a gray silver. Better than the red and gold. Because once again, I'm just trying to be against tradition, apparently. Yeah. It's more fun. I could handle that. Any basically anything with why I think looks really clean. So true. I'm here for that one. Nope, there's a blue. I haven't looked through these. But we almost went with blue. Alright, moving on. Number six. Should be black and red. Yes. And shirt. Ah, look black and red plaid has an example. Yes. It's called buffalo plaid. The black and red. So that it's probably been like, well, good. Before we go. Why is it called that? I have no idea. Because buffalo is or not? Right. Well, no, obviously not. I have no idea. It's like buffalo check. Buffalo plaid. That's just the name of it. I have no idea. Okay, this this episode is gonna leave me with research questions than answers. But it's probably been, I don't know, 10 years since this like woodsy looking theme came to be with the like, burlap situation. And then like you get little ornaments with black bears on them. And it's very like log Caveny. I feel like so they look really cool if your house has the right setup to have that. But I also think red and black looks good. Well, clothing in any kind of design, you could do the red and black and it would go with a lot more than red and green. sounds true. Yeah, I think like you have a cabin or just the house with bunch of trees in the back like it kind of blends right in. Looks good there. Cool. I like it. Yeah. All right. Number five. Oh, look at that. Look, it's here like one ahead every time. This one I don't like the light blue. Yeah, I like the navy blue and especially with gold. I think I really like gold. theme of days. I like gold. Yes, but Navy I think looks really cool with the gold. I just for some reason, prestigious and like super fancy. It looks elegant. Yeah. Because I don't like the Navy with silver. And I don't like the light like snowflake blue type theme. But I really liked the Navy and gold. I did a tree one year for the festival trees. It was like the very first year that Navy was popular. And I think people were really thrown off. Because I mean, people didn't bid a lot on it. But it was like the very first year you could even buy Navy ribbon that I had ever seen. So it's kind of new. Yeah. And a lot of stuff was not traditional to do navy blue. So if you already own things that are red, green gold, you can just throw Navy like you'd have to start all over. Yeah, so For some people, I don't know, I would love to start over. It's just expensive. Yeah. But like, I think it's cool. It looks like the new trend. Who knows how long it's gonna last? Maybe one day people will be like, you can't use blue for Christmas. I don't know. I feel like you can use it in color for Christmas now and people can justify it one way or the other. It's hard to find really is when shopping. Yes. At least in the what is the word the variety. There's not a lot of variety. You can get like basic Navy ribbons and ribbons, basic Navy bulbs. But there's not a lot of cool. That's why you have to use gold tax. And yes, I'm a tree designer. All right. Moving on. Number four. Golden white gold. Golden whites. Yes. All the gold and white. Is very fancy. This Yes. Is like you have a white interior. This is what I have at my house. Well, my house is dark and scary. That's why I did white and gold so it's bright. Maybe that's why everything just looks so bright. Is everything if your house is one of those nice ones where everything is white. And looks new. It looks so sharp. Yeah. Looking at these examples, here it looks Yeah, awesome. It just looks fancy. But you have to use white walls. Yeah, you got to have the whole setup. Because it doesn't look that good in my house. So we have a lot more gold and white too. But I just think cleanliness is the whole the whole scene. Yeah. That's it looks good. I don't like our walls are gray and we have a bunch of black furniture and stuff probably wouldn't look good in our house. No, it still would. It just won't look the same. Yeah. But the samples look cool. It's kind of like, you know, in a perfect world if I had a very fancy white clean house. Yeah. That's like not on my budget. Yeah. Okay, moving on. Number three. Go, oh, shades of green. Yes, hopefully. pine cones. I like this one. I have not really seen this a lot until the last couple of years. I've been doing the festival trees for 10 years, not like an expert on Christmas colors. But I've seen trends change. And I'm I'm doing shades of green this year for the festival trees. So it was really hard to be pine cones. There's some pine cones. There's a lot of little like woods, woodsy creatures, but there's not a lot of options out there of just only green if you don't want red. That's I didn't want any red on this tree at all. I just wanted it to be like green and some brown wood and white. And there's not a lot out there. That's just solid green. And I didn't want lime green. I liked the dark and the like sage green. I think it looks cool. Anything monochromatic almost looks really cool to me. Design wise, tree wise, Christmas, even outside of Christmas. Monochromatic stuff looks cool. So maybe we need to do a video or a couple of photos of the festival trees. Trees and tie back to this Yeah, yes. Do a follow up video maybe just on social media or something. But those trees that have the the white flocking, you know flocking is the fluffy it's like the fluffy snow looking trees. I think those with the green decorations look the coolest because it's like reversed. So you still get the green but the white instead of time in the place. Yes. All of you clothes off. I mean, they even make it spray so even if you have a regular green tree you can spray it Oh geez. I'm not doing that. That'd be all over the place. Yeah. All right. Next one number two. Blacking I'm really a black and gold comfort. My wedding colors were black and I love black and gold. Because she grew up in Noblesville. I know. It really annoys me that really annoys me that those are our high school colors. Because I don't want to like it because of Noblesville. That's probably why you like it so much. I just really I just really like black and there's not a lot of you said that about like five colors. Okay, gold and black, which is which I've said and white right, which is this exact Theme right here. So it's all coming together as one I've been what have been what's number one? How does this one not take the cake if hmm Well, I probably talked about that too. You gotta quit getting ahead. You're like one. I'm interested to know I well the black and gold and white. I think you have to convince people to be okay with black. The red and black. I think people have accepted. Yeah, the black as like the main color. I still think people think it's too out there. Fair enough. It's very you have to like unless you're like very emo because you, you don't use too much black like for example, if you're looking at it's more of an accent. It's hard to do in color. It's hard to do a lot of black. So if you're really trying to make that your main black and all black. If you did it on a flocked white tree. It looks I think so cool. Black tree. Can I have done a black tree with black? I don't know. Because like I want any kind of pics. Or like any kind of greenery in a black tree though. So you can't make it any full of white or black different like, yes, black. I did a black tree one year with all black and gold on it will not even go just like oh, like I'm thinking one of those houses that has an all black interior and everything and then you could it'd be really pretty there on a black tree. I liked the black, but a lot of people are like you can't put that on a Christmas tree. Yeah. So do you need more designers for the festival trees? I don't know. It starts next week. Designing starts next week, so probably not. Maybe Hannah would like it. She can help me. We'll see if she listens. So we'll give her two days. She listens to the podcast before we mentioned it to her. Yes. That's good. Joel did not listen to our last one. Because I called around and he didn't even know so cool. All right, number one. Number one is white on white on white. Yes. I which I just talked about on the White House. The white floors, white walls, white counters. I like the white it looks really really cool. Yeah, but I like the different textures. So that's why this one is like a one color with to texture. Yeah, situation. Fluffy. Like for like for slash snow fluffiness and white wood as well. Yes. Yeah, it looks so clean. It looks very instead of just like it's not Christmassy, it's wintry. So you can put this up, maybe leave it up a little longer. That's what I'm justifying it as mostly put a merry christmas sign like this example. Okay. Yes, but it looks more full winter seasonal decorations. Yes. And then like, you can have white like little trees on your books, anything like the extra decor. It being white is not overwhelming. So then whatever color your house is, like you can't go wrong with white. White goes with anything. And you can get really cool colored wrapping paper and put under it. You can I don't know if your house is orange. Your walls are orange. The White will look good. Yeah. I'm sure. I think it just looks really cool. It looks. I like the woodsy vibe every year. I like the little woodland creatures are like little white owls. They have ribbon that's like white fur. look super cool. Interesting. Is this the one that has the like actual wood tree? Or was that? Yeah, with sticks? Yeah. Yeah. Like it's a cool look. It's not treated like that's a little bit way out there on yeah, definitely not traditional. Yeah, you have to, I think be more for these last ones. Like it's a little bit more like you want a trendy vibe versus or you've had this same Christmas tree since your kids are born and yeah, there's like I think two I put up multiple trees. So I have like my family tree which is black. And has all the like heirloom ornaments and things. And then I have my pretty tree. Yeah, we have we have two trees. We use the baby tree for all the random ornaments. Yeah, I don't have enough for a full sized tree. Yeah, so I have my little skinny black tree. That's my that's why it's black because there's so many colors of crap on it. So I did a little skinny black tree than my big tree is all the pretty one that matches the mantle and matches all this shelve decorations. And I also think maybe it's because I don't have kids. So I don't need it to be fun. True, it can just look good for the sake of looking good. So I've never been able to get on board with those, like, the themed trees that look super cool. Like under the sea theme or like a bar retreat or whatever. They look very cool, but I can't put that in my house. Yeah, I look weird. I don't have kids to like, appreciate it. I feel like I can. I don't know, like Star Wars or like Harry Potter trees that are super cool. That'd be that's the right generation though. I feel like there's that's expensive. Yeah, I'm sure but they look. So they have so many you can put your sorting hat on top. It's very cool stuff on top. It's I don't know, Candy Cane hat. But yeah, we could have done a whole nother one just about cool Christmas themes. But color wise, the white is the winner because you put it with anything you want. I just like the textures. So yeah. All right. So let's go back here to the honorable mention. It's not really an honorable mention. It's a dishonor I hate it. But traditional red and green. That's, I like the the home Enos of it. It's like the white walls that are around the white fireplace. I think it's just so overused. And it's probably because I design things in real life with these colors, and I just hate it. Yeah. And I have to argue with people that you can use other color combos besides red and green and still look like a holiday. Magazine magazine or whatever. Like it doesn't have to be ready. If you ever catch me wearing red and green like check on me. I might be injured or something that is not like ugly Christmas sweater. My ugly Christmas sweater is red and black. Not surprised I had a red and white one before that. Okay. I think mine I don't remember what mine is. I got it last year. Maybe it's red and green. I have a lot of random black plaid. Christmas looking things. Have a flannel that has Why do you not do red and black in your house then? Well, everything I have in my house has deer themed. It's all deer. I think last year I posted on Facebook. I have gold deer and I have white deer everywhere. And wouldn't deer and real deer metal like galvanized looking? No, we do have real deer out in the woods but you can't really buy red and green deer. Yeah. Aren't we shoot red and black? You can't shoot red black. No, you I meant to say you can't really find red and black deer at the store to decorate. They have a lot of golden wine. Yeah, that's fair. I did post on Facebook last year like every single deer. I went to Fisher there like 27 Different kinds of it's a little bit of a problem. Joel needs to get a real deer mounted to well we have one mounted, it's on his dad's house but we could and then put little he would kill me if I hung ornaments off the antlers. He would kill me. You don't really have space either. Well, we do. Oh, yeah. You can put those deer anywhere. The know the mountain. Yeah. Where? Well, we're getting a mount for his little thing he shot last year. Right by my fireplace. That's where the TV is. It's on the sidewalk. Like the fire TVs here. Yeah. Then on the side. And he's facing. He's facing sideways. Like he's looking at us all the time. It's gonna be great. I was just thinking that I should put a Santa Claus hat on him though when we get them. Yeah. I was just thinking that was too short. For some reason. I think it's like too short. And like you'd be like, I level with you when you walked in, but hope not because that's very uncomfortable. Yeah, hey, send us some pictures. If you do have some mounted animals with send us some pictures with them with Santa hats or ornament. I just want someone else to do it. Yeah, I don't think I could get away with it or send this pictures of your actual Christmas decorations. If that to if you have any of these color themes or color combinations or any different color combinations we'll make one last scroll through all these. I really liked the Grinch one. I like it for other people. Like I like it. It's on my list. It's very cool. Yeah, just a little too fun for me. I've always been a fan of like bright colors and stuff. So I think doing that. See? I'm like a very neutral. Yeah, black white gold. So okay, so we've talked about these tan we've talked about a few more what's what do you think color combination of the future's going to be? Black in some random like me on those are like, like a rave Chris iridescent looking like where if you look at it from different light and different angles, it's all different colors, you know? Yeah, like your sunglasses. The you know, I'm talking about Yeah, but this year I don't know every time I want to get like I want to do to like teal and gold. But everything that teal. that's out there is like gonna be tough for decorations. I feel it looks really pretty. Yeah, the teal and gold does not have much. There's not much of it. And the teal that they do have is like peacock feathers, and like teal and purple. And like Mardi Gras looking style. Yeah, it's like teal, pink and purple. Fair enough. I don't want that. I don't want all that business. I really like the black thing. I think we'll be here for a while. Yeah. NEON will be cool. I think people are going more towards themed trees now which is cool. Just random stuff. Yeah. You either got the people that are like this is my same tree. I'm never changing it. Or I've seen some that are legitimately like seashell vibed. Seas, ocean themed, which you got to be the right person to want that. You probably have to be in Florida. I've every year talking with the designers for the festival of trees. One year, this man named David. He's fantastic. His company always sponsors his tree. And the owner always just buys stuff for him. And then he has to work with it. And it's kind of like watching chopped. Have you seen that show? I've heard it's a cooking show. But anyways, he just like is given the whole theme with all the ornaments, all the stuff ready to go. And he just has to make it happen. In one year. They gave him all birds. It was just like 1000s of birds. Okay, so they're like different sizes. So he did like little birds at the top. And the whole tree was just covered and birds. And everyone was so overwhelmed. And then I was talking with my mother in law about it. And she's like, I would have loved to have a bird tree like the rest of us were like, This is so insane. Yeah, no one's gonna buy this because she got to the festival. No, I'm like, well, I should have told you. We all thought the birds were like, did it actually sell it sold somebody people who like birds like birds. Like you got to have the right person there at the right time, though. But there's like themes that some people are obsessed with him. The bird one. Now every year we hide a bird on his tree, it gets a whole like it turned into a whole many year experience at this point. But I hope that the fluorescent like neon, that would be cool. Blacklight trees would be so cool. Not practical at all. Really cool, though. Like the actual trees on or the lights on the trees or black light. Like the Mini Oh, that would be cool too. Then you could put the decorations on the trees make it where they get everything white color during the day without the lights on. But then you turn night comes in the lights turn on that would be cool. If anybody not with paintings on tick tock. Have you seen it where they turn the light off? And it's like a different painting that you couldn't see before? No, it's very cool. But I don't know if those type of strands of light exist? Probably not. I don't know if you can get black lights even as like a roleplay. I don't know if they exist. Maybe as a rope light. I feel like do that rope light, I guess. Yeah. Or you could just stick a black line up in the trunk. It's tricky. You get too hot. It'd be really cool to see If it works like we think it was gonna work. I mean, it's the same concept of it as everything else with black lights. You just have to find specific decorations. Yeah, I think eventually the whole crystal glass icicle looking thing will come back around joy. I don't like I hate using glass ornaments of any kind. It looks very like clear glass like yes like actual glass in general. Oh, hate glass ornaments. But the ones that are like, they look like crystals. Yeah, the long ones. Yeah, yeah. Or like jewels of different kinds. I think it makes a comeback every once in a while, like everyone all the sudden decides they want something fancy again. Cool. Well, hopefully that gave you some inspiration. While you think I'm crazy. Yeah. I don't think so. I think there's crazier people out there with their Christmas stuff. But yeah, again, if you're like, if you're listening, you're like, Okay, well, I can't really picture what she's talking about, or how that would look. Go to our YouTube channel, even if it's just to watch that one specific section where we talked about that one color combination. Just go youtube.com/out hardened digital. Yeah, I'm gonna post it on our social media too. Maybe she's writing a blog. I'm gonna write a blog, you guys. Yeah, that's exciting news. I'm not really a writer. So that might be worth the read just for the giggles it'll be very unprofessional. Not necessarily unprofessional. But like very funny. Writing. Not like very honest from very corporate. I guess. There you go. Yeah. So it'll be a good one. I'll edit it a little bit, but I think I'm gonna let her just run with it. So. Yeah, but shout out to Nate, for listening to our podcast. Oh, Nate Frederick. He's been on here as Godrich. Right? Yes. Okay. He's our cousin. And he's our cousin. Sorry, I didn't know what you're asking. He listens to our podcasts all the time, because he's a nice person, and was like, Hey, if you're gonna talk about things, you probably should put the pictures of it on your video. So here you go. We tried. It might look insane. I don't really know how he was doing all that. So we might just have to go back and do it post recording. We'll see how it turns out. We're trying. We're evolving. We're making the YouTube a better experience for everybody watching. And hopefully even if you are just listening, I know we had a big influx of people after interview with queue couple episodes ago. Hopefully you can at least picture what we were talking about. And hopefully, you enjoy listening. I know it's not necessarily social media or it's way design related because you can use these concepts in your holiday marketing materials and designs and things like that. So yes, it's Christmas home decoration oriented. But the color combinations are good for anything around this time of year. So sometimes we got to talk about fun things. Yeah, for no reason whatsoever. Yeah, that's why we talked about is it too early for Christmas for 20 minutes? Yeah, awesome. Thanks, Kaylee for joining me. I know last last episode, we hinted at a different episode. We're going to do really push that one off for for now. We'll get back to that this one was time sensitive. Yeah, I was just like today thinking. Okay, everybody's talking about Christmas. I just came from a meeting with a client who was decorating their office for Christmas. I was like, it's Christmas. So we ran with it. But if you have any topic ideas that you want, Kaylee to discuss anything, design, color, combination, anything like that, we've done a few but anything specifically, be sure to send us a message on whatever platform you're listening to or on social media at hardened digital. So thanks, Kaylee, and we'll see you next time. All right, that'll do it for this week's episode. Thanks again, Kaley for joining me. It's always a pleasure talking with you and learning more about your design concepts and thinking and you know, I always walk away learning something after talking with you. So if you did enjoy this episode, you liked having Kaylee on the show. You like learning about social media topics that I talked about early on in the episode.
